UFOs in Sight!

Well, once again I've let months slip by without posting.  But I have been busy!

After giving my granddaughter her high school graduation quilt (a year ago!), I considered my next project and realized how many UFOs I had.  Two in the basement, waiting to be sandwiched, two on my quilt rack waiting for inspiration on how to quilt it, and five in my sewing room in varying states of unfinished-ness. I could not in good conscience start a new project with these things sitting around (plus, where would I put anything more?!?).

I decided to start with the Barrister's Blocks (the oldest and most incomplete, thus the one that would take the most time and effort to finish).  You can see those individual blocks in my posts here from 2012.  The project began in February 2012 and ran through December.  I hadn't much liked what I'd made 14 years ago and my tastes have changed to things more modern, so I wasn't sure I'd actually see it through.  But as I started playing with the pile of blocks, I found real enjoyment in these traditional blocks.

Some blocks I deemed too poorly-made for inclusion (too big, too small, parallelograms or trapezoids instead of squares), which required that I make them over again or forget the whole thing.  Other blocks were OK, but the fabrics didn't seem to fit with the rest, so I made those over, too.  OCD is a terrible task-master!

When all were completed(ish), I was 3 blocks short of what I needed for the on-point setting I wanted.  I decided to go back to the Farmers' Wife book to look for 3 blocks that were not included in the Barrister's blocks.  I picked three that I could complete quickly.

I added the sashings that I'd planned years ago, and as it came together, I realized that I really do like this quilt.  I picked a contemporary gold fabric with little spots of color that frames the quilt nicely.   Kellie at Riverhead Vac and Sew did the quilting.
